Welcome to the UKBAP website supporting the implementation of the UK
Biodiversity Action Plan (UK BAP) on behalf of the UK Biodiversity Partnership
and the UK Government
"Biological diversity" is the variability
among living organisms from all sources including, inter alia,
terrestrial, marine and other aquatic ecosystems and the ecological complexes
of which they are part; this includes diversity within species, between species
and of ecosystems.
The UK BAP
-
is the UK Government's response to the
Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)
signed in 1992
-
describes the UK's biological resources
-
commits a detailed plan for the protection of these resources
-
the new UKList of Priority Species and Habitats
has been published and the conservation approach for these 1150 species and 65
habitats is being developed by the statutory and non-statutory sectors.
Implementation of the UK BAP is the responsibility of several groups.
Find out how the UK BAP is managed, who these groups are and what work
they do here.
In this web site you can also:
-
Read the papers and minutes of the various groups to get an idea of how the UK
BAP is managed and of the issues under consideration
-
Link to the country websites to get an idea of how the countries are taking
forward conservation of the priority species and habitats (note that details of
how conservation of the new species and habitats will be taken forward has not
been finalised, although good progress is being made and conservation work is
planned to start during 2009)
-
Access the species, habitat and local action plans
that comprise the UK BAP
-
Use the links to BARS, which contains the up-to-date information on the species
and habitats, and link to NBN, which provides distribution records
-
Identify and contact Lead Partners for the old
plans and LBAP officers
-
