Local & Regional Strategy Implementation Group

'Working with the Grain of Nature' makes it clear that Government views local and regional delivery as integral to the conservation of biodiversity in England. The Local and Regional Strategy Implementation Group (L&RSIG) has been established to assist the England Biodiversity Group in advising the Government on the development of the local and regional action programme. A core group of those with knowledge, experience and expertise of these issues is currently being developed to help with this challenging task.

The group will meet quarterly, with use of virtual and topic groups to deal with particular work programme items and to secure input from a wide range of practitioners across England. A Regional Chairs Group has been established to feed directly into the L&RSIG and in particular to develop strategies and actions for regional delivery. The L&RSIG is concentrating in the first instance on four areas:

  • Community Strategies
  • Work in the English Regions
  • Communication of success and good practice
  • Development of performance indicators
